Razor Dune Buggy Review

This dune buggy is the one! Kids and teens love it as it has plenty of buggy thrills and can go on all types of terrain.

Parents love it because no assembly required!

Yes, you heard that right no two-hour site down to get it all set up. Simply take it out of the box, add the flag, decals, and charge the battery then you are good to ride!

Design

The durable tubular steel frame is solid and will last for years as many have commented. The dune buggy comes with a bucket seat and steering wheel which houses the adjustable throttle and brake controls.

To clarify the throttle is adjustable for the location on the steering wheel to do this use the Allen wrench located in the plastic package with the manual. On the underside of the throttle assembly is a hex screw, loosen the screw and adjust the location as needed.

The hand-operated brake I mentioned controls the rear disc brakes in the back of the vehicle.

Since there are no foot pedals this buggy is perfect for any kids with special needs that have problems controlling their feet but are able to control their hands.

Wheels

The Razor dune has pneumatic tires which means they are filled with air and have an intertube. Pneumatic tires are sought after for kid’s ride-on toys as most just have hard plastic.

The 8-inch knobby pneumatic tires do amazing on tough terrain and yes they will handle grass and gravel without an issue.

Most of these tires end up lasting around four years until they need to be replaced unless you get a flat. If you get a flat you can go to a place that deals with tires and they can patch them for usually under ten bucks.

Another option is just purchasing a new kid’s dune buggy tires on Amazon.

Safety

The Razor dune buggy is only about 2 inches off the ground so you don’t have to worry about flipping it. Even if you would there is a safety belt that goes over your lap, no shoulder belt.

The go-kart also has a metal roll cage for protection. There is a diamond plate floorboard under where your child will sit.

We do recommend a helmet with speeds of 9-10 MPH.

Speed

Razor dune buggy can go fast, top speeds between 9 to 10 miles per hour. This dune buggy comes with a chain-driven 350-watt electric motor.

The ride is nice and smooth with a rear suspension system as one of its best features. Dune buggies are not usually this well known for driving up hills and not losing speeds.

There is a variable speed built into the thumb trigger throttle on the steering wheel. The more you squeeze it the faster you will go.

This is battery-powered and not gas-powered. The dune buggy has a simple electric design running from the motor to the hand-operated throttle and brake.

Capacity

This ride can only hold one child and recommended age is 8 and up. The maximum weight limit of the Razor dune buggy is 120 pounds.

The height can be an issue when someone gets to about 4 feet 8 inches it gets more difficult to drive as the seat is not adjustable and the kids really have to bend their knees at this size and up. The tallest was 5 foot 0 inches and could only ride for a little while.

Entertainment

The reviews on this dune buggy are extremely high and positive. This buggy has provided so much fun for kids everywhere.

A dune buggy like this is so much fun because it can even be taken where your dirt bike can go, ground with hills, leaves, and grass. Of course, this is not 4 wheel drive but it does handle itself very well.

Razor has done an amazing job and all the reviews back them up.

Running Time

The Razor dune buggy as mentioned is electric and comes with a 24V ( Two 12V sealed lead acid ) rechargeable battery and battery charger.

Make sure to charge the battery fully the first time as the battery system will be completely drained as these will be in boxes before shipping for months at a time so it could be dangerous to have a charge in them.

The battery power will last between 40 minutes to 60 minutes of run time depending on a few key factors. The weight of the rider, the terrain, and the age and quality of the batteries can affect the battery life.

Some people purchase extra batteries on Amazon so they can simply swap out the battery once it stops running so the fun doesn’t stop. Keep in mind there are a few screws that need to be removed to do this, it wasn’t designed to quickly swap them out.

We also recommend giving the vehicle a few minutes to cool down in between, it will ensure the quality of the vehicle over time.

If you are looking to get some extra riding time make sure to purchase a battery with a higher Ah. The battery that is included with it has 7 Ah, the higher this number is the longer the battery life.

Price

For all the features in this kids dune buggy, the price is right.

Kids can have so much fun with this electric go-kart and people are reporting that it lasts over 4 years before needing new tires, that’s a very long time for something of this size.

Convenience

The dune buggy is a decent size but Razor was smart and made it so you can store it vertically and keep it out of the way, huge convenience when storing ride-on vehicles.

The dimensions of the vehicle are 26.5 x 17.5 x 41 inches; 4.41 Pounds.

Keep in mind the buggy is comfortable as well with the padded bucket seat. A chain-driven motor will also keep this running for a long time, you don’t have to worry about plastic gears wearing down because they went with a metal chain.

The Razor Dune Buggy is available on Amazon.

Razor Dune Buggy Alternative Option

If this vehicle doesn’t fit exactly what you are looking for I would recommend the Razor force drifter kart as a great alternative.

The size is very similar, however; it can hold 140 pounds and is more of a blacktop type vehicle. It will not handle off-road terrain like the dune buggy but it will slide very well on road-type terrain.

The Razor force drifter kart has a sweet hand brake to slide with and can go up to 12 miles per hour.

Conclusion

I hope this review covered everything you are looking for in an electric buggy for kids and teens. We can’t recommend this enough for kids that are age 8 and up.

The wheels alone will add so much value as riding on any terrain is not an issue. Really has great speed and safety features as we mentioned above.

If you are still unsure we have a list of kid’s electric cars for age 8 and up.
